In the show notes for his Spring/Summer 2022 collection, Prabal Gurung wrote: “America has always been a woman – but she has not always been treated beautifully. What does it mean to be the most essential person in this country? What is feminine? What is American? And who gets to be it all – or none of it?”.

With this manifesto, Prabal Gurung wanted to make it clear that he is an ally of women – new New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who replaced Andrew Cuomo last month after he resigned amidst numerous cases of sexual misconduct, front row at his show.
Presented at 20, Battery Place in New York City, overseeing the Statue of Liberty, the message was clear: bringing women under the spotlight to remember the past and salute their courage to overcome, daily, multiple societal challenges.
“I always feel femininity and women in their full feminine glory is the most unnerving thing to the patriarchy”, he said. “It’s really important that we get in the forefront and start having this conversation, because we need to redefine patriarchy – look at the state the world is in right now. We need more matriarchal energy. This is a celebration of that. It’s a celebration of any woman or anyone feminine-leaning, however they identify’’.
Colorful, full of energy, easy-to-wear with a remarkable new lightness, his new collection set the tone for minimalism, monochrome dresses and tailoring worn with florals and gingham, while the vocation of sportswear was embraced in coats and pieces with detachable cutouts.
