The Mulleavy sisters, Laura and Kate, known for their ethereal aesthetic at Rodarte, embraced an enchanting abstraction for their Fall/Winter 2024 collection. As Laura explained, “We were thinking about fantasy…transporting in and out of something, playing with optical illusions.” This theme materialized in captivating ways, offering something for both the red carpet aspirant and the fashion-forward dreamer.

Black reigned supreme, but not in the conventional sense. A column gown sported a seemingly floating corded lace collar attached with illusion tulle, while another featured cascading ruffles in vibrant hues that veiled the arms and torso, resembling a “butterfly about to come out of its chrysalis,” as Laura aptly described. Sequined butterflies adorned the bodice, adding a touch of whimsicality.

Award season beckons, and Rodarte provided an array of showstopping options. A scarlet sequined column gown with a peplum and hand-shaped rosette exuded sophistication. Slinky slip dresses in silk and lamé offered boudoir-inspired allure, while a dusty pink lace dress with ruffled “shells” on the breasts channeled a romantic Victorian vibe.

The era’s influence peeked through a dramatic gown with oversized leg-o-mutton sleeves in shimmering metallic lace. For a more ethereal touch, a semi-sheer cotton tulle gown, embroidered with countless pearls and featuring cascading ruffles, evoked the image of a celestial being.
