Perhaps nothing just happens in life! While his powerful and poignant documentary “Wonder Boy” will begin streaming from June 26 on Netflix in 170 countries, Olivier Rousteing has just unveiled his Cruise 2022 (Resort 2022) collection for Balmain, a collection he said as his most personal yet.

The collection was somehow a catharsis for the designer, who wove references to the Horn of Africa – after much searching, he discovered that his birth mum was from Somalia, and his father, from Ethiopia – to his upbringing in Bordeaux, to Paris where he found his métier and family/army at Balmain and to the legacy of the founder of the house Pierre Balmain.
It was also one of his most diverse, surprising and confident collections, with a profusion of bold patterns and rich textures balanced by nonchalant summer-style shapes.
