In what now becomes somewhat of a tradition Kim Jones brings yet another contemporary artist to celebrate with a Dior Men collaboration. This time, Jones invited for his first Dior collaboration the Scottish-born/Trinidad based artist Peter Doig. The collection gave another life to Doig’s artwork, making it part of Dior DNA.

The painter, who lives and works between Trinidad and London, is known for unsettling landscapes that blend reality, memories, found images and references to art history.
The Dior ateliers worked wonders in transferring the artist’s brushstrokes onto knitwear and recreating his paintings on coats, anoraks and blousons. Doig’s sensibility also heavily informed the collection’s expressive colour palette – brilliant tangerine and yellows alongside dusky blues, lilac and aubergine, tempered by neutral whites, blacks, greys and camels.
‘’The palette directly references the work of Doig via Dior – soft, muted blues, navy, dusky mauve, dior gray, alongside brilliant yellow, blood-orange and green, vibrant hues expressing joie de vivre. Handcraft replicates brushstrokes through embroideries, knit and hand-painting. piping, bound trims and baroque embroideries ‘frame’ garments, as if they themselves were paintings. the shapes and forms of the collection become canvasses for art’’, shares Dior team.
Uniforms were an another central theme of the collection – a reference to the designer’s graduate collection at London’s Central Saint Martins school in 2002, and also a nod to ‘’Guest House’’, Doig’s gray aquatint from the same year, which features the shadowy outline of a soldier in ceremonial garb.
It manifested in the mandarin-collared shirts, the side-striped trousers tucked into boots, the berets and badges as well as star buttons that accessorised the looks. Despite its influence, the collection wasn’t severe nor overly strict – there was softness and richness too in the dense embroideries, the tactile mohairs and the jacquards.
