Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana chose the duo’s Viale Piave show-space with the runway turned into a huge LED screen, and a backdrop that featured a techy cartoon metropolis, to present their Fall/Winter 2022 collection that paid tribute to music and the metaverse.

The show transports us to a futuristic dimension. “The codes of the brand are reinterpreted and projected into the metaverse and, as in a video game, propose super feminine heroines”, said the brand’s press release.
Gabbana added that “the metaverse is for a different generation, but we are curious about it. You have to try and understand what is new”.
At their show, a virtual catwalk was stitched together with a real one. On a giant screen, avatars wearing the new collection took a pixelated 3D strut toward the audience. A physical catwalk was projected from the screen into the venue, and when the virtual models reached the catwalk, they disappeared and were replaced by flesh and blood ones, who walked the runway.
As for proposals, their new tailoring had superheroine proportions – all inverted triangle silhouettes topped by shoulders several inches past out-to-there in techy synthetic fabrics. Some of the pieces featured the unique graffiti art by Rocco Pezzella a.k.a. Boche. There was also a short series of shaggy yeti coats with matching bags in giant checks with matching booties. Although the silhouettes were daring, the fabrics were just as bold. Vinyl was used throughout the collection to embellish everything from oversized puffer bags to red statement jackets, while oversized coats were made from vividly colored eco-fur, which the brand described as reminiscent of the virtual typical of video games – last month, Dolce & Gabbana said it would stop using fur in collections in favor of eco-fur garments and accessories, becoming the latest brand to do so amid changing tastes of younger, environmentally-savvy customers.
