Its latest Fall/Winter 2021 collection designed in a locked out world, where large gatherings are discouraged and parties are a misty memory, seems to be a fitting response by suggesting an optimistic future.
Inspired by the 1973s Rainer Werner Fassbinder sci-fi TV movie ‘’Welt am Draht’’ (World on a Wire), the collection invited us to escape to another dimension that can be found in all forms of spaces calling to travel and escape.
‘’We started by building a men’s collection with silhouettes and techniques that refer to mid-century couture. We wanted to create clothes of dreams, rather than the mundane pragmatism of our everyday lives. An escape from the banality of our realities’’, said Benjamin Huseby et Serhat Isik, the duo behind GmbH.
The influence of mid-20th century haute couture can be read in the panels of fabric, tightly draped and crossed the chest, whether on a leather jacket, a shirt, a long and super-fitted black coat, on sweaters with metallic effects or even on a quilted coat with bare shoulders. Bare shoulders, we come there precisely. This undressing effect was another nod to mid-twentieth-century haute couture that the duo had daringly incorporated into their collection, on a number of pieces, thus releasing another potential of seduction for their men.
Other signature elements return, including the famous double zips which were found incorporated in front of the pants, diagonally on the boots, along the sleeves of a quilted windbreaker or multiply on coats or jackets.
Elsewhere, the label is launching its first full range of vegan shoes and accessories, including tall riding boots with curved zips.
