The renowned fashion brand Kenzo has recently unveiled its latest collection for the Spring of 2023, Kenzo Varsity Jungle, designed by none other than the brand’s artistic director, Nigo. This collection of t-shirts, sweatshirts, and cardigans is inspired by the Ivy League aesthetic and pays tribute to the brand’s founder, Kenzo Takada, and his love for nature.
The Kenzo Varsity Jungle collection features two distinct prints – the elephant and the tiger – that reflect the brand’s graphic codes and Kenzo Takada’s legacy. The elephant, known for its excellent memory, was the founder’s favorite animal, and he often incorporated representations of elephants into his designs. Similarly, the tiger was also a source of inspiration for Takada, and the first tiger print appeared in KenzoO’s collections in 1975.
Nigo has created these two prints with his signature touch, drawing inspiration from the imagery of 1950s sailor tattoos for the elephant print, while the tiger print made its debut in the brand’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection.
To showcase the launch of the Varsity Jungle collection, Kenzo has collaborated with photographer Frank Lebon for a campaign that celebrates the brand’s values of belonging, going beyond traditional family ties. The visuals feature a collective of characters that express a real sense of community, highlighting the importance of a shared identity.
The Varsity collection comes in both elephant and tiger motifs, featuring a range of items, including cotton t-shirts with printed graphics on the front and back, embroidered jersey sweatshirts, and cardigans. The collection is available in black, white, blue, pink, red, and green, and the prices range from €130 to €390. The collection is available in Kenzo boutiques and online at kenzo.com starting from April 2023.
