KidSuper Fall/Winter 2021 - Paris Fashion Week Men’s

As the traditional format of fashion shows is no longer possible because of social distancing due to the global health crisis, designers have no other choice but to take innovative initiatives, in particular by focusing on digital, to get closer to the public.

Colm Dillane, the New York based designer behind the KidSuper label was no exception. He imagined six characters inspired by personalities around the city, and turned them into a ‘’KidSuper-esque’’ folk tale.

Dubbed ‘’Life in Seven Stories’’, the short movie staged several characters of New York life including a nine year-old boy, a Senegalese tailor, a Chinese mobster, a Russian butcher and a pickpocket. All these characters have served as inspiration and were the starting point for his Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

His archetypal wardrobe filled with colors included a wide range of desirable pieces ranging from quilted down jackets to cardigans, hoodies, sweatshirts, suits, a full-length synthetic fur coat, a leather biker, denim pieces …

Rich in proposals but also in patterns. Colm Dillane adorned his pieces with patchwork, checkerboard patterns but also abstract faces and urban landscapes reflecting the diversity of New York. He treated them in a variety of ways: in embroidery, brush strokes or pencil sketching or appliqué as if they had been painted directly onto clothing.

‘’I make clothes that I want to wear. I come up with ideas that I want to create. I always wanted to direct a short film. For this collection I made 7 short films around eccentric characters alive in this NYC world that I am inspired by every day. As for the clothes, they feature paintings/drawings of these NYC moments that continuously hearten me.’’, said Colm Dillane.
