Unable to be in Paris due to the pandemic, Junichi Abe unveiled his latest Kolor Fall/Winter 2021 collection by livestreamed the show from the Happo-en garden of Tokyo.

Night had fallen and the models could be seen working their way through a winding, tree-lined pathway, dimly lit in blue. When they stepped onto the well-lit runway, the colors suddenly sprang to life.

According to his notes, the collection represented a push to incorporate minimalism into his signature maximalism, in order to bring ‘’a new style of simplicity where complexity also coexists within’’.

Concretely, this season was an exercise of minimalism for Abe, who continues his construction of silhouettes by slimming down them, by overlaying them and by playing with deconstruction/reconstruction.

Thus, different fabrics and colors were associated and blended to create a coherent and attractive whole. Sportswear, knit sweaters, suits, quilted jackets… have been cut and brought together to give rise to more eclectic styles, in the upcycling movement.
