In the Brooklyn Museum’s Fine Arts Courtyard, decorated with beautiful floral installations by Emily Thompson, Ulla Johnson and her team presented a collection filled with freshness and inspired by Lee Krasner’s color palette, Louise Bourgeois’ textiles and Bryan Lavelle’s wavy paintings.

The designer once again explored how far she and her team can push the level of her contemporary dress-based collection, filled with crochet and embroidery anglaise pieces and artisanal details.

In this collection where color played a starring role, there were many interesting proposals and new-to-Ulla techniques. See a sweaterdress with a loose fringed hem entirely hand-knit from silk ribbon, a striped blanket dress with side cutouts hand-loomed in Guatemala, exaggerated volume shirt and pants sets in electric hues, hand-dyed-in-India ikat suiting made by female-led collectives, and refined loose-fitting suits.

It’s exciting to be able to really start working with the communities that we were having a difficult time accessing over the past few years”, said Johnson.
