Each season, Yohji Yamamoto gets us used to a new serenity. His Spring/Summer 2022 film, directed by the Japanese photographer TAKAY – this is their fourth collaboration – shows us models strolling out nonchalantly alone or in groups, hands into pockets or left loose at their sides. The film is accompanied by the voice and ballads interpreted by Yamamoto himself, who expresses his loneliness, his feelings and his anger in his poetic way on today’s world.

The collection – some black and beige hybrid looks were inspired by his Spring/Summer 1986 collection – follows Yohji Yamamoto’s DNA by using deconstructed and oversized shapes, very light fabrics like linen, silk and light cotton. Revisited trench coats to suggest the idea of light and airy clothes, easy to wear for warm summer.
Sometimes, the camera lingers and zooms in on the details that let us see flowers prints, eyes drawings – works of the Japanese artist Yuuka Asakura – mechanics’ tools jewelry, a touching nod to the “blue-collars people”, or the words “Love” and “God Bless” printed on some of the pieces.
