The Spring/Summer 2024 fashion show of Issey Miyake was a spectacle of awe, unveiling not just a mesmerizing array of apparel and pleats but introducing the world to the first sneaker born from the alliance with New Balance. Monochrome yet vibrant, these sneakers embody a fusion reminiscent of climbing shoes, adorned with the iconic “N” logo and grounded by a sturdy Vibram midsole.
While drawing parallels with the New Balance’s Minimus line, especially the 10 v1, the collaborative piece stands in a league of its own. Enhanced with premium materials, the upper design exudes an aura of luxury. It’s an epitome of an outdoorsy aesthetic accentuated with rope-like laces, a gripping midsole, and a copiously-paneled upper, casting shadows of the Salomon Cross Low at certain angles.
