Inspired by life and living, the Prada Fall/Winter 2022 womenswear collection by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons mined the house’s plentiful archive for inspiration. But instead of directly pulling and plucking from what has come before, the two looked to the past in order to continue what Simons has called the “language of Prada”. A language that connects tradition with our current culture, one that links generations and shared histories.

Titled “An Ideology of Prada”, the collection was filled with smart separates imbued with an almost modernist sensibility, enhanced by artful touches and decorative embellishments, like tweedy coats and blazers festooned with feathers and monster fur like armorial medals, sweaters were knit with modernist prints in clash-y colors, a sheer beaded layer that turns a mini into an ankle-length skirt, oversized paillettes sewn onto bomber jackets to create abstract blooming florals, or pastel faux-fur arm bands on peacoats. These feminine, often tactile add-ons made the pieces distinguishable, but not unwearable – and that’s key for the design duo.
“I think of revolutionary moments in Prada’s history, and we echo them here”, Raf Simons said in his statement. “There are never direct recreations, but there is a reflection of something you know, a language of Prada”.
