And art serves as a backdrop for his new collection which took place at his sprawling headquarters in central Milan. Guests were welcomed by a remade version of the Roman sculpture Laocoön and His Sons (with Laocoön in Plein sneakers), then passing several other gigantic sculptures placed on three marble tables, around which the models parared.
Collectively called “LIL MONSTERS”, these colorful fantasy characters are named LILBOO, LILCYCLOPS, LILDIABLO (a sinister man with a crazy hairstyle, Plein’s favorite), LILGOZILLA, LILSHARK, and LILSKULL. All of these monsters – Plein intends to exhibit them next December at Art Basel Miami – happily take possession of pieces from the collection, on shirts, sweaters, bomber jackets, tracksuits as well as accessories. Monster-shaped patches appear on varsity jackets while embroidered versions adorn playful and colorful knits.
